These checking accounts pay interest, have no minimum balance, no transaction fees and have free transfer of money to or from other accounts. You also get up to a $6.00 ATM rebate, per month. You get a VISA bank card, most people get a low-interest line of credit (mine was $750) and you get the usual starter set of checks, checkbook, etc..

You can write checks at the local stores and you can use your VISA card wherever VISA is accepted. You can use your VISA card to withdraw money from any ATM.

So, while you open these checking accounts online, there is no real difference compared to a checking account you open by walking in the door. Except that it is a lot faster and has no downside (no monthly charges)!
